Students and staff are celebrating exceptional examination results at Brooke Weston Academy in Corby.

An impressive 84 per cent of pupils achieved at least five A* to C graded GCSEs including English and mathematics, a

significant increase on last year’s figure.

In each of the core subjects of English, maths, science and modern foreign languages, more than 90 per cent of students attained an A* to C grade. In English and mathematics, more than 80 per cent of students made three or more levels of progress from their Key Stage 2 starting point, an impressive figure that is significantly above the national average.

There were also many outstanding individual performances including eight students who secured ten A*/A grades and a further 18 pupils who achieved eight or more GCSEs at A*/A.

Principal Trish Stringer said: “We are delighted with these achievements. Students in Year 11 have secured an impressive set of results and maintained the highest standards despite significant changes to specifications, the raising of GCSE standards and government announcements of turbulence in GCSE

“Over 80 per cent of students have shown higher than average progress in the core subjects and the percentage of those achieving five or more GCSEs, including English and mathematics, has risen by 12 percentage points this year.

“My sincerest congratulations go to all the students who have put in so much hard work to achieve these results. Special thanks go to all the staff at Brooke Weston whose daily dedication and relentless commitment has been pivotal to this success and finally to our parents who have been unstinting in supporting their children in achieving these excellent results.”

The results included five A*-C, including English and maths, was attained by 84 per cent of students, up from 72 per cent last year.

Students attaining A*/A was 21 per cent and 49 per cent of pupils secured their eBacc.

APS capped and uncapped both improved on last year and in maths, English and science more than 90 per cent of the cohort achieved an A*-C GCSE.

A total of 73 per cent of the school’s Year 11 secured a modern foreign language which represents a significant increase on previous years.

More than 80 per cent secured 3+ levels of progress in English and maths.

Maths results have replicated the best ever pass rate in the history of Brooke Weston Academy. The only other year 92 per cent was achieved was when students could use every single sitting (five in total) to secure their grade.

If the results had been secured using the previous accountability measures, 100 per cent of students would have secured five or more GCSE grades A*-C, 86 per cent more than five GCSEs including English and maths and 39 per cent A*/A.
