Gathering in town against forces cuts

About 20 people gathered at Wellingborough’s war memorial to protest against cuts to the Armed Forces.

The protest was held on Tuesday to coincide with protests at more than 60 war memorials nationwide, including the Cenotaph in London and memorials in cities including Manchester.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has said the Army is to lose 17 major units in the biggest overhaul of the service for decades.

Ian Nunney, who took part in the Wellingborough protest, said: “It was a protest by ex-servicemen, servicemen, widows and parents of people that are serving against the cuts.”
