Podington Wyevale Garden Centre has seen a surge in sales of real trees.
It comes as a nationwide survey has revealed that one in six people are now buying more than one tree.
Podington Garden Centre near Wellingborough has reported selling approximately 400 real trees over its Real Tree Weekends throughout December.
Poinsettias have also been popular among shoppers this December with an increase in sales compared to last year.
Christmas Eve is set for a peak in Poinsettias sales between 1pm and 2pm today with an estimated increase of 14 per cent.
This year’s statistics also reveal that alternative colours in the traditional seasonal plant are setting a new trend as the white, pink, picasso, marble and dark pink variety, unavailable in most supermarkets, are flying off the shelves at Podington Wyevale Garden Centre.
Jetinder Sandhu, centre manager at Podington, said: “Buying two Christmas trees seem to be the solution to the family divide in what constitutes a good Christmas tree. “We find men and women can differ with men choosing a tree as part of the exterior décor and we have even seen customers purchase a third tree for the children.
“We are set for the Christmas Eve rush hour for Poinsettias which is when we see many customers purchase the house plant as it makes an ideal gift for friends and family, as well as being a colourful treat for your own home.”
