A garden centre near Rushden has donated real Christmas trees to two local schools to celebrate the festive period.
Wyevale Garden Centre in Podington has donated the trees, complete with decorations and lights, to Christopher Reeves Lower School in Podington and St Lawrence VA Lower School in Wymington.
Jepinder Sandhu, centre manager at the garden centre, said: “At this time of year, we are delighted to be able to support organisations within the local community and we really enjoyed delivering the tree.
“It was lovely to see the excitement on their faces.
“Choosing the perfect Christmas tree can be a tricky task but we have a variety of experts on hand in centre to help our customers pick the right one for them.
“We can also offer top tips on caring for the tree to make sure it lasts right through to Christmas Day and beyond.”
The garden centre will be selling a variety of trees at its Real Tree Weekend on December 12 and 13.
Activities include free hot chocolate for the whole family, a free tour from their tree experts and festive foraging for children.
Also on Saturday December 12 the centre continues to spread festive cheer by inviting all parents and their children to show off their creative skills by entering a children’s Tinsel Dress Up competition at 10am.
The garden centre is challenging children to enter the competition and create a festive outfit made from tinsel on the day, as part of its month-long tinsel celebration.
Mr Sandhu added: “We thought it would be a fun idea to host a tinsel dress up competition for children, to help celebrate our real tree weekends.
“We hope lots of children will enter the competition with their parents.”
The event will be judged by members of the Podington Garden Centre team who will give the most creative outfit a £100 gift voucher to spend at the centre, with entry to the competition free.
