Councillors will meet tonight (Wednesday) to agree how they will prepare development plans for the district.
The East Northamptonshire Site Specific Development Plan includes policies and proposals on how specific areas of land across the district should be used.
This could be for housing and employment as well as areas that should be kept as open space.
It is important for the council to have an up-to-date and relevant plan for the whole district and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) advises that plans should aim to cover the period for 15 years ahead.
Steven North, leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said: “We have a statutory duty to prepare development plans for the district and an out-of-date development plan or absence of one may lead to more planning appeals.
“So, this is the right time to review our strategy for preparing the plan documents.”
