A Rothwell hairdresser is organising its third annual fundraising event at Pitsford Reservoir.

The Walk It! Jog It! Run It! Cycle It! event around the reservoir, at Brixworth Country Park, takes place on Sunday, June 28.

It’s all in aid of Kettering General Hospital

Director of John Newman Hairdressing and Beauty Shirley Newman said: “We had an incredible event last year raising our biggest sum ever.

“We really hope to encourage many, many more people to take part this year, and to support our local hospital service and staff, for the long-term benefit of us all.

“We are hoping for continued support from local suppliers, as we are very proud that every penny we raise is donated to the KGH charities.”

Moer than 150 people joined in last year to raise money; all volunteers and spectators are welcome to support and jolly along the participants.

The event will be supported by the Northampton Saints professional rugby union mascot Bernie, while the Waverley Wolf from Kettering Rugby Football club will be parading their new mascot.

There are seven KGH charity funds supported this year; the breast unit, cardiology unit, dermatology unit, endoscopy unit, ophthalmology unit, stroke unit, and for the benefit of the community and staff at KGH, Revive the Recreation Hall Fund.

Each will have a stand on the day to raise awareness, and will be on hand to provide information on a variety of topics from bowel and breast screening, to recognising the signs and symptoms of a stroke.

In addition there will be a multitude of other activities to encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle including blood pressure monitoring and digital weight analysis.

Dr Ahmed Mukhtar, the former clinical director of KGH and current High Sherriff of Northamptonshire, will be opening the event.

Mrs Newman said: “We’d love as many people to come and support us and join in the fun.

“And for everyone fundraising for the event they will be rewarded with a well-earned medal to acknowledge their tremendous effort.”
