Kettering’s civic society is holding a number of fundraising events as part of its bid to restore an old town mosaic.
The group has been trying to restore and re-site the Kenneth Budd mosaic, which was created in 1961, for a number of years.
The huge artwork, which was designed by Mr Budd, depicts an abstraction of the Kettering coat of arms, and tells the story of Kettering’s industrial and social history.
Now the group is hoping to get it back to its best by holding different fundraising events throughout 2016.
First up is a fundraising dinner on Friday, June 17, at Kettering Park Hotel.
There are also coffee mornings at the Toller Meeting Rooms in Meeting Lane on July 23 and August 27 from 10am to midday, with all welcome.
The Time Travellers on Platform 1 at Kettering Railway station will be hosting Jamie Poole’s art exhibition during Open Studios in September.
They will be open on September 3, 4, 11, 12, 17, 18, 24 and 25 and any time by appointment.
On October 14 there is a fundraising dinner at Kettering Park Hotel with speaker Bob Christy and his “Sputniks Beeps & Mr Perry”.
There will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the internationally-acclaimed Kettering Grammar School boys satellite tracking.
Details can be found on the Kettering Civic Society’s website with booking forms at Kettering Museum. Non-members of the society are always most welcome.
From September 12 to 15 there will be a coach tour to Port Sunlight, Liverpool, Portmeirion and Chester, staying for three nights with breakfast and dinner at Beaufort Park Hotel in the attractive North Wales countryside.
Tickets cost £266 with brochures in the Kettering Museum.
