Fundraisers hand over £2,000 to heart hospital

More than £2,000 has been handed to the Papworth Hospital by a group of generous Rushden fundraisers.

Members of the Swivel Club raised the money for the Cambridgeshire-based hospital, which specialises in heart and lung treatments.

Rachel Roberts approached Swivel Club to help raise funds for the hospital after she had been through a long journey of ill health and treatment.

Rachel had been a patient at Kettering General Hospital when her condition began to deteriorate and was referred to Papworth Hospital in 2011, where she was fitted with a VAD heart pump as a temporary measure.

In April 2013 a suitable heart became available and Rachel has gone through the slow process of recovery.

In September, the Swivel Club held an event at Rushden Bowls Club where the American Divas performed a tribute to Cher, Tina Turner and Madonna.

The event raised £2,100 through ticket sales and a raffle.

In the last 12 months, he Swivel Club have this year provided individuals with aids, adaptations, treatments and equipment. Donations have also been made to high profile charities including PROSTaid, Air Ambulance, McMillan Nurses and the Royal British Legion.

Marian Eaton, from the Swivel Club, said: “To date Swivel Club have donated almost £70,000 to the local community and wish to thank all those who have attended our events and also local companies for their help with donations.”
