Three-year-old Luke Lester fell ill and was taken to hospital in Leicester where he lost a leg, and last week he lost his toes on his left foot after further surgery.

And now Burton Park Wanderers FC, based in Burton Latimer, are holding a fundraising event for Luke’s family.

Fundraising chairman Kirsty Ward said: “We have set a date for the fundraising event which is Saturday, March 12.

“The event will be held at the clubhouse at Burton Park FC and will be a disco, an adult-only event and fancy dress being a kids theme, such as Disney or superheroes, with tickets £10 each.

“We will have a raffle on the night and are seeking donations for prizes.

“I have contacted local businesses as well as Premier League football teams in the hope of obtaining some great prizes for the raffle.”

Luke’s godmother Mandy Coyne says doctors have described him as their ‘Christmas miracle’.

She said: “Luke has had his operation and lost his toes on the left and kept his thigh on the right, there are skin grafts ahead and more surgery next week.

“He’s doing well considering. A doctor called him their Christmas miracle.

“We’ll have more news next week, but there’s obviously a very long road ahead.”
