Family and friends are rallying round to support a family left devastated after a fire at their house.

James and Michelle Barrow are well-known in Kettering for their work to raise funds for Skylark Ward at Kettering General Hospital with their Kettering McQueen car, modelled on the Lightning McQueen character from the Cars films.

But after a fire at their house on Monday afternoon, people are rallying round to help the family who lost many of their possessions in the blaze.

Sarah Judge, a friend of the family, said they have lost ‘literally everything’ and added: “They are quite devastated at the moment.”

Among the items destroyed in the blaze, which happened at about 2.50pm on Monday, were games consoles and laptops.

Firefighters were called and a tweet from the fire service said the conservatory and contents were involved in fire, with smoke damage to the rest of the property.

After speaking to James last night, Sarah said: “They were living out of plastic bags, they just collected what they could salvage.”

To help the family, people are being urged to support a fundraiser taking place from 2pm until late on Saturday and Sunday at the Wayfarers Inn in Kettering with a bouncy castle, raffle, tombola, stalls and face painting.

It comes after more than £300 has also been raised online for the family.
