Fundraiser for Burton Latimer family whose house was devastated by fire

Singer Soosie Kaye was so shocked to hear of the house fire that gutted a friend’s home that she organised a fundraising cabaret afternoon at the club where she regularly performs.

It is thought that the fire was started by a chip pan.

Alongside fellow club acts, Amy Leeder, Snowy Ellson and Jackie Faye, the performers will give a free concert at the Britannia Working Men’s Club in Newman Street.

Soosie from Wellingborough heard of the plight of pensioners Malcolm and Carol Watts from Burton Latimer.

She said: “Malcolm had driven Carol for a scan at the hospital.

“When they came home the house had burnt down.

“All they had left were the clothes they were standing up in.

“They’ve lost everything.”

Malcolm volunteers as the entertainment secretary at the Britannia WMC and is responsible for booking the acts.

Soosie added: “When my husband and I went for a social drink at the club we heard about the fire and we wanted to do something to help Malcolm and Carol.”

The event begins at 4pm until 7pm on Sunday (November 13), with the four vocalists performing their reportoires - cover versions of popular songs from across the decades.

Each performer will be on stage for half an hour when Soozie will be singing hits mainly from the 60s, Snowy 60s and Rock and Roll classics, Amy’s set will include tunes from the past up to the present day while Jackie will be singing songs from the shows.

The evening also includes a secret raffle - where raffle prizes are gift wrapped to give the winner a mystery surprise.

A food hamper and Ted Baker cosmetics are to be auctioned off for the Watts.

Admission to the fundraiser is free with all proceeds from the raffle, auction and donations to go to the couple.
