Funding boost for drug addiction charity

MORE than £1,000 was raised for a charity which supports people with alcohol and drug addictions in the county.

Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce raised a total of £1,202 during the past year for charity CAN.

It held a series of activities, including a golf event, giving charitable donations instead of Christmas cards and a Christmas lunch fundraiser with guest speaker Nick Hewer to raise the funds for the cause.

CAN chief executive Linda Juland said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for CAN to raise the profile of the charity and to develop a greater awareness and understanding of the impact of drugs, alcohol and homelessness with individuals, families and communities.

“We have made many contacts in the business sector which I am sure will continue to benefit us in the years to come. We would like to thank the chamber and its members for their support and the money raised over the year.”

The chamber released the total as it announced its new charity of the year.

This year Northampton Door to Door Service, which provides a minibus and shop mobility services to those who cannot use public transport, was selected as the chamber’s charity of the year.
