People in Rushden are so disappointed that Party in the Park is not going ahead that they are putting on a mini picnic in the park instead.

Emma-Jayne Ward, of Rushden, came up with the idea after hearing this weekend’s Party in the Park had been cancelled because of the bad weather.

She said: “I just thought it would be nice to round up a few friends and go down to Rushden Hall Park with a picnic and some games. I normally go to Party in the Park every year and I know everyone’s been looking forward to it so I thought it would be nice to have a get together with some family and friends.

“We shall be there from about 1pm. If anyone else wants to come along with their own picnics it would be nice to see them.”

The friends will meet near the flower beds in the main part of the park on Saturday, July 14.

A spokesman for Rushden Town Council said it was pleased people had come up with plans to use the park. The council is not involved in the organisation of the picnics.
