The Friends of Wellingborough Castle held their last event today (Saturday, December 1).

The Friends have been supporting the Castle since it opened in 1995 and have raised about £250,000 over the years, but they are disbanding on December 31 after the management decided to bring the fundraising in-house.

Member of the committee Elizabeth Griggs said: “We had a Christmas coffee morning this morning and it was very well supported, we had to bring in extra chairs for people.”

The event included a cake stall, tombola and craft stalls, and Father Christmas was there to give the children an early Christmas present.

Elizabeth added: “It’s very sad that the Friends is ending but we’ll be happy to help in the future if we’re needed. The committee members are going to have a get together in January so we can all have a catch up.”
