Fraudster claimed almost £5,000

A BENEFITS cheat has been sentenced to community service for fraudulently claiming almost £5,000.

Richie Woodley, 33, of Rycroft Close, Wellingborough, was claiming jobseeker’s allowance, housing benefit and council tax benefit when he failed to declare his partner had moved into his home in February 2011.

Wellingborough Council launched a joint investigation with the Department for Work and Pensions and he was charged with two offences of failing to notify the change of circumstances.

He pleaded guilty at Wellingborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was sentenced to a community order to do unpaid work. Council leader Paul Bell said: “We take benefit fraud extremely seriously.”
