A group of friends have taken over a former Kettering social club to transform it into a tandoori grill and pub.

Jeet Chahil, Jas Somal and Bindi Singh took over the former Miniature Rifle Club, in Bath Road, about six months ago.

They have completely transformed the inside of the building, renovating the bar area, bringing in pool tables and installing projectors and large screens to show sporting events.

The new pub, called The Miniature Indian Grill, will be opening today (Saturday, December 21), although at first only the bar will be operating – with the Tandoori grill expected to fully open in a few weeks.

Jeet, who will be managing the new venture, said: “All three of us used to come here with our dads when we were young, going back about 30 years ago, so we all had a lot of good memories associated with the building.

“The building was looking very tired when we took it over about six months ago, so we’ve put a lot of hard work into getting it sorted out in time for this Saturday.

“What we really wanted to do was provide good quality, tandoori grill food.

“That will be the main focus but there will be some other dishes which people might be used to seeing on the menu in Indian restaurants.”

Although the grill is not opening on Saturday, Jeet said the intention was to open the bar over the Christmas period to give people an opportunity to see the inside of the building.

He added: “We wanted to give local people somewhere to come and have a drink over the Christmas period.”
