The blaze was bought under control at around 6am but some crews were still at the scene 5½ hours later and local residents are being advised to keep doors and windows closed to keep smoke out.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.

NFRS' incident commander revealed the resident had been woken up by a smoke alarm and managed to escaped uninjured.

A fire service spokesman said: "You are four times more likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a smoke alarm that works. The easiest way to protect your home and family from fire is with working smoke alarms.

"Get them, install them and test them, they could save your life."
