The Festival of History, which was due to take place at Kelmarsh Hall this weekend, has been cancelled because of heavy rainfall.
English Heritage said the rain overnight, which caused severe flooding, meant it was “impossible” to run the event safely.
Steve Bax, English Heritage’s Visitor Operations Director for the East of England, said: “We are very disappointed that we have had to cancel the Fesitval of History but following last night’s torrential rain, the site is completely flooded and we were left with no choice.”
Refunds for existing pre-booked ticket holders will be available.
English Heritage is also offering free entry to Kenilworth Castle, Kirby Hall, Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Old Hall, Audley End and Wrest Park - all within driving distance of Kelmarsh - today (Saturday, July 14) for anyone with advance tickets to the festival.
Ticket holders just have to show their tickets at the admissions point to get in for free.
Details of how to get refunds for pre-booked tickets for the Festival of History will be posted on the English Heritage website and the English Heritage Facebook page later today.
