Father from Northamptonshire who beat girlfriend unconscious jailed for 30 months

A woman has been jailed for five months for causing the death of a cyclist by crashing her car into him between Wellingborough and Finedon

Mohibullah Armani, aged 25, of Byron Street, Wellingborough breached a court order by visiting his girlfriend at her home and proceeded to attack her.

During the attack he strangled her and she lost consciousness.

Judge Michael Fowler, sentencing him today, said: “She was rendered unconscious by the attack and her circumstances were that she was a vulnerable person and you targeted her in her own home.

“They are serious aggravating factors.”

Armani, who has a three-year-old daughter, also had his house searched by police in June last year.

On top of a wardrobe they found identity documents that had been stolen in a burglary.

Officers were about to seize £240 in £20 notes when Mr Armani tried to stop them by confessing that it was fake.

He claimed that he had sold a laptop to a friend, who had given him the fake notes and he was keeping them until he could get proper payment.

However police charged him with having custody of counterfeit currency, as well as possession of the documents.

Judge Fowler said the fact that Armani had previously been in jail for having fake identity documents made his offences worse.

He also said Armani should have destroyed the notes or notified police when he realised they were fake, instead of risking them being passed back into the system.

He jailed Armani, who is from Afghanistan, for 18 months for ABH, six months for having the stolen documents and a further six months for possessing counterfeit currency.

The court heard he is likely to be deported when his sentence ends.
