BT has announced plans to make faster broadband available to a further 5,200 homes and businesses in Northamptonshire.

Earls Barton and Roade are the latest communities in the county to be included in the roll-out of BT’s next generation broadband service delivered over copper lines.

They are due to be upgraded by next spring.

The BT investment will make available download speeds of up to 20 megabits per second, more than double the speed previously available from BT.

The faster broadband recently became available in Rothwell and Irthlingborough and is already available in many places across the county including Kettering and Corby.

Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “Faster broadband will play a vital role in the future success of our region and, like our roads and railways, represents a vital component of Northamptonshire infrastructure. In an increasingly competitive and technological world, it is essential that local businesses and households have access to high-speed modern communications.”
