WITH summer finally here, now’s the time to visit The Shire Horse pub in Corby.
Children and families are always assured of a warm welcome at the Willowbrook Road pub and there is a bouncy castle in the garden to keep the children entertained.
To celebrate the Golden Jubilee, Debbie, the landlady at The Shire Horse, is holding a garden party on Monday, June 4. Debbie said: “It is open to everyone and is free. There will be live music from Dirty Thunder as well as acoustic sets and a disco and karaoke.
“To make sure the children are kept entertained a magician will be performing tricks and a balloon modeller is coming from 1pm to 3pm.”
The free garden party runs from midday to 9pm and the bands start at 4pm.
The pub is gaining a reputation for good value food, including the Sunday carvery. From June to July The Shire Horse is offering two adult carvery meals for £10. Incredible value for money, the carvery includes a choice of two meats or home-made steak pie, home-made stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, roast and mash potato and three vegetables. Debbie also makes sure there is home-made cake, as well as other desserts, available for those with a sweet tooth. The choices include apple pie, triple choc cake and carrot cake, and cost from £2 to £2.50. The Sunday carvery is served from 1pm to 5pm.
Food is served at The Shire Horse on Mondays to Fridays from 5pm to 9pm. There is something to tempt everyone from light bites such as jacket potatoes and omelettes to bigger meals including salmon, steaks and gammon.
For real ale lovers, The Shire Horse always sells IPA at a very reasonable £2.55 a pint as well as a regularly changing guest ale, which costs £2.90.
It’s not just the good value food and drink that attracts people to The Shire Horse, starting on Sunday and running on the last Sunday of every month there is a car boot sale. Open from 8am to midday, it costs £4 for cars and £5 for vans. The bar will be open for hot and cold drinks and refreshments, including breakfast rolls.
