A lorry passing through Weldon, near Corby, brought down some phone cables from a telegraph pole near the entrance to the village earlier today (Monday, March 24).
Police said the accident happened at about 2.30pm in Corby Road, Weldon, when the lorry caught some wires as it passed through the village and brought them down – partly pulling down the telegraph pole in the process.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the road had been closed but BT had given permission for the wires to be cut so the road could be re-opened.
He added that the driver of the lorry was unlikely to have known their vehicle had struck the cables.
Wires leading into two homes were said to be affected.
