A new hotel could be on its way to Kettering town centre after planners gave the green light to the proposals.
Kettering Council had already agreed planning permission for a 45-bedroom hotel in Queen Street, off Horse Market, several years ago.
However, a new scheme was submitted last year which sought to extend that permission to add a further 21 bedrooms.
The planning documents said the extension was needed to create “a more economically sustainable development”.
The applicant is Kevin Jones, who is also involved in a large nearby retail project at The Yards, off Market Street, which is due to open in May.
The new hotel site is at the Queen Street Kettering Council-owned car park and on some currently vacant land at the corner of Queen Street and Horse Market.
According to the plans, the hotel development will overhang part of the existing car park – which has room for about 40 cars.
The development will have 18 car parking spaces.
The application was considered by councillors at a planning meeting last week.
Two nearby residents had raised objections to the scheme, saying there were not enough parking spaces and that the development would be too close to residents in Mobs Yard and Green Lane.
Responding to concerns about car parking spaces, Northamptonshire’s highways team said the parking provision was considered acceptable in the town centre location where there are nearby public car parks.
