A team of litter pickers will be out in Kettering this weekend to clean up a much-loved wood and meadow.

Kettering's Green Party and the Save Weekley Hall Wood team - who are battling to prevent a warehouse development on the green space - have organised the event which will take place from 9am to 1pm on Saturday (July 18).

It has been noticed there has been a build-up of rubbish since campaigner Dez Dell last litter picked it in May with Loz Anstey. Then they found a huge amount of industrial waste on the wildflower meadow including empty cement bags, sheets of insulation, loads of cables ties and even half a sign that originally said 'contractors report to site office'.

Dez said: "The industrial waste we found in May could have blown over from the existing warehouse developments, which is a real shame as this is such a beautiful area.

"I am fighting to save this wood and wildflower meadow from further development which would irreversibly tarnish the landscape.

"After all, we can pick up litter, but we won't be able to remove massive warehouses to restore nature."

Volunteers are encouraged to join the litter pick by turning up at any time from 9am at the table just on the meadow at the Brambleside entrance.

Social distancing measures will be in place and volunteers will be allocated specific areas to litter pick.

Pickers and bags will be provided thanks to Kettering Council's street cleansing team but volunteers must bring their own gloves and sturdy footwear.
