Five boarded-up properties which have been empty for years will be brought back into use after a council agreed plans to use its powers of compulsory purchase to buy them.
Wellingborough Council’s resources committee voted in favour of the move at a recent meeting.
Members agreed that 34 Kestrel Lane, Wellingborough, which has been empty since 2005; 6 New Street, Wellingborough, which has been empty since 1996; and 14 Masefield Close, Wellingborough, which has been empty since 2008, should all be brought back into use.
They also agreed to the compulsory purchase of 16 Berrill Street in Irchester, which has been empty since 2000, and 141 Gold Street in Wellingborough, which has been empty since 1989.
The council also recently used the powers to buy land needed for the Stanton Cross development to go ahead.
