Employment rate in Corby, Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough continues to be above national average

The number of people in work in the north of the county continues to stand above the national average, according to the latest labour market statistics.

Figures revealed today show that national employment is at a record high of 74.6 per cent.

But the numbers for those in work in Corby, Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough all surpass the national average.

In Corby, employment stands at 78.1 per cent, although the claimant count has shown a slight increase.

In Kettering, 82.4 per cent are now in work with another slight increase in the claimant count.

A total of 79.7 per cent of those living in Rushden are in employment and in Wellingborough the employment rate stands at 76.2 per cent.

A Department for Work and Pensions spokesman said that it held two jobs fairs in Wellingborough this week and hopes to run one on the Hemmingwell Estate in April.

They added that eight people had gained employment through a training scheme with Knights of Old and that they are holding a care jobs fair in Corby on March 24, with seven employers attending.

The spokesman said: “All the local job centres want to be an employer’s recruiter of choice, so we welcome their business and want to work with them to meet their recruitment needs.

“We have a great deal of expertise in working with employers and meeting their recruitment needs.

“We can offer a personalised and tailored service, and if required offer employers accommodation within our premises to meet that recruitment need.”
