Eight workers clock up more than 200 years of service at car dealership in Wellingborough

Eight workers are celebrating after clocking up nearly 250 years of service between them at a car dealership in Wellingborough.

The eight all work at Vauxhall dealership York Ward and Rowlatt in St John Street, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary as a motor trader this year.

Nick Hughes has acted as general manager at York Ward and Rowlatt for the past 28 years. He said: “We are so fortunate here at York Ward and Rowlatt to benefit from such a dedicated and loyal team who provide the sort of experience you just can’t replace.

“Our wealth of longstanding staff members means that customers know they can trust us and they love to see so many familiar faces on every visit.”

Service technician Steve Smith is the longest-serving member of staff, having started his career in the motor industry as an apprentice at York Ward and Rowlatt in 1966. He said: “I’m proud to have built my entire career here. The lads in Service are great to work with, when they’re not teasing me about my beard that is!”

Service technician Bob Hughes, who has been working at the dealership since 1973, said: “I really enjoy my job at York Ward and Rowlatt, from undertaking repairs and MOTs to speaking to the customers; I take pleasure in every aspect.”

Cashier Lynne Norman is celebrating 41 years of service at the dealership this year. She said: “The team here have always been incredibly supportive and are a pleasure to work with; they are more like friends than colleagues.”

Service manager Andy Cowly, sales manager Dianne Taylor and workshop foreman Karl Brown will all be celebrating 25 years of service next year, with bodyshop manager Adrian Brayfold currently on his 23rd year.
