The University of Northampton’s vice-chancellor Nick Petford has signed a new five-year contract.

Professor Petford took up the vice-chancellor post in September 2010 and the new deal will see him lead the institution through the planned move to the new £330 million Waterside campus in the town centre in 2018.

Professor Petford, who was paid a basic salary of £184,000 last year and also received a bonus of £19,000, said he was “immensely proud” of his work at the university.

He said: “The university has gone from strength to strength and plans continue apace for the development of our innovative new campus. I would like to thank all staff and students for their dedication and commitment to the vision.”

Andrew Scarborough, chairman of the board of governors, said Professor Petford’s “vision and drive” had been central to the achievements of the university during the past five years.
