“Services would be provided throughout the shop’s new opening hours, which are Monday to Friday, 7am to 7.30pm; and Saturdays and Sundays, 7.30am to 7pm.

“This will be an extra 44 hours a week of Post Office services including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.

“The branch will also open significantly earlier and close much later.

“It will also mark an end to lunchtime closing.”

The current branch in The Square will close with the current postmaster’s agreement at 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 17.

Customers who need to visit a post office during the morning of Thursday, August 18, are advised to use the branch in Northampton Road, Wellingborough.

Post Office regional manager Will Russell said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

During a public consultation over the move the Post Office says the majority of the comments it received were in support of the move, with customers welcoming the proposed longer opening hours, improved access and the retention of Post Office services in Earls Barton.

Other feedback commented on parking, traffic issues and the availability of space within the proposed store.

Like the current branch there is a step at the entrance of the new store, but a portable ramp will be available for wheelchair users plus a bell to call for assistance.

A handrail will also be provided to assist customers negotiate the step.
