UPDATE: Driver dies after crash which closed A605 in Northamptonshire, two seriously injured

One woman died and two passengers were seriously injured when their car collided with an HGV in Northamptonshire in the early hours.

They were travelling towards Thrapston on the A605 near Oundle at around 5.30am when their silver Ford S Max was in collision with a white Scania LGV on Thursday (January 23).

The driver of the Ford, 43, died at the scene.

Another 48-year-old woman and a man, 40, who were passengers in the car were treated by a doctor and paramedic flown in by the Magpas Air Ambulance service. Both were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries.

Fire crews from Oundle, Thrapston and Northampton rushed to the scene and a three-mile stretch of the A605 was shut both ways between Well Lane, Barnwell, to the A427 Station Road.

Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which closed the road between Barnwell and Oundle for more than ten hours while recovery and investigation work was carried out.
