Fifty years ago, the Baileys of Brigstock were born within half an hour of each other at hospitals more than 100 miles apart.
And after a blind date and what some might say is fate, married couple Neil and Sue are both celebrating their half centuries today.
Mr and Mrs Bailey, of Sandlands Avenue in Brigstock, are set to mark the occasion with a party today and then enjoy a weekend away in Norfolk.
They were both born on March 1, 1962 – Mr Bailey was born at 10.30am at Kettering General Hospital and Mrs Bailey at 11am at Orpington Hospital in Greater London.
Both had been married previously, and they met on a blind date in Ringstead in 2005.
Things went so well that they married the following September at Oundle Register Office.
They have five children between them from their previous marriages, who are now all in their 20s.
Mrs Bailey is a retail manager while Mr Bailey is currently out of work, having spent 35 years as a yacht builder at Fairline Boats before being made redundant.
Mrs Bailey said: “We met on a blind date, believe it or not.
“There are so many coincidences it is untrue.
“My thing is, I think we met in a past life, but my husband just laughs at that.
“I most certainly do believe in fate.
“We’ve got a family party at home today and then we are going to the California Cliffs in Norfolk for a boozy weekend.”
Mrs Bailey used to live in Weston Favell, Northampton, before her path crossed with that of Mr Bailey.
She said: “I had never heard of Brigstock when I met him – I thought it was the back of beyond.
“He is Brigstock born and bred.
“I would love to know if there is anyone else like it because it must be rare.”
Mr Bailey added: “I don’t think you would be able to work out the odds on it.
“I’m not sure I believe in fate – I’m not that sort of person, but Sue is.
“But since we have met, everything has been absolutely brilliant.
“It has turned my life around.
“We’ve got the family coming over today then we’re going away for the weekend with friends.
“She is a country girl now and she wouldn’t swap it.”
