Desborough’s turn for carnival fun

Arrangements are now finalised for this year’s Desborough Carnival.

Carnival week starts with the annual quiz at the Indoor Bowls Club in Desborough from 8pm on Monday, June 23.

Teams of up to four people are allowed and it costs £5 to enter. There is a trophy and prizes for the winning team.

The carnival court has been chosen by Havelock School – the queen is Sadie Scott with attendants Katie Lawton and Bella Morgan and page boy Mackenzie Slattery.

Carnival day itself is next Saturday, June 28, with the parade kicking things off.

It will leave Dunkirk Avenue at 2pm before working its way around the town.

Entry forms for the parade are available from the doctors’ surgery, library, heritage centre and several town shops.

The field events at the Recreation Ground in Dunkirk Avenue also start at 2pm.

Arena entertainment will include a marching band and gymnastics display.

There will also be numerous stalls, side shows and a children’s fairground on the field.

This year the Vikings of Mercia will be taking part in the parade as well as putting up a Viking village on the field and staging a battle in the main arena in the afternoon.

Carnival chairman Michael Crick said: “The committee have once again worked hard to put together what we hope will be a good day for the town.

“We hope that we will be supported again as all the money raised goes to town organisations.”
