A Desborough man is riding his scooter all the way Skegness to raise money for PTSD UK.

Alan Dowsett, 38, set off for the coastal town of Skegness on Saturday (September 19) on a 1980s Honda Vision with a top speed of 28mph and he will be documenting it all on his YouTube page Helmet Head.Alan decided to make the trip to raise money for PTSD UK because he used to work for the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and came across people affected by post traumatic stress disorder.

He said: "I worked for EMAS for five years, I started at the bottom and worked my way up. I came across it, it's more common than people actually know about.

"I had quite a few colleagues suffer after horrible jobs and the pressure of the job."

Alan first raised money for PTSD UK last year on a Honda Monkey with a wet and gruelling trip to Snowdon in Wales.

He decided the next challenge would be riding to Skegness on a Honda Vision and said: "I have been a biker since I passed my test as a kid.

"A Honda Vision was the first little bike I bought, but I could only find one for sale in the UK for this challenge, so I had to go down to Gloucester to get it."

Alan has repaired the scooter and put it through its MOT and has had the bike decorated especially for his charity trip.

Alan said: "It's 85 miles there and the bike's actual top speed is 28mph but obviously it's quite old now, so it's more like 25mph."

Alan is also travelling with a small camping set and other supplies so he thinks once the scooter is weighed down, it might be much slower up hills.

He will be joined by other YouTubers for moral support on the journey and will be sharing videos of the challenge.
