Northamptonshire Police chief constable Nick Adderley has slammed a member of public for criticising the police over catching speeding motorists.

The chief constable is an active user of social media platform Twitter and frequently engages with other users.

And one user was left in no doubt earlier this week of the chief constable's views.

The user tagged in @NorthantsChief stating: "People are being robbed, burgled, knifed and killed and you lot whoop yourselves up for catching a few people speeding. You're an embarrassment."

The chief responded: "Do you have any idea what the biggest killer in Northamptonshire is right now? Clearly not... It is road death.. Death on the roads is largest threat to your life and the life of your loved ones. You should be grateful that we out helping save lives."

The message follows similar ones from the Northants Safer Roads Team - they have made no apology for catching speeding motorists and have been quick to highlight the high speeds that some motorists have been driving at during the lockdown period.
