A woman stole a child's birthday present from the doorstep of a house in Kettering after trying to enter the home.

Police have released an image of a woman they want to speak to after the incident in Brambleside at about 9.30pm on July 22.

Two women stopped outside a house and had a conversation, before one of them walked up to the front door and tried the handle.

A police spokesman said: "The door was locked, but the woman at the front door picked up a parcel containing a birthday gift for the homeowner’s child, which had been left on the doorstep by a friend.

"The woman, anyone who recognises her, or anyone with information is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000378331. Or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
