Woman grabbed by the throat while walking from Northampton supermarket

A good Samaritan came to the rescue of a woman who was grabbed by the throat in a shocking assault near to Northampton town centre on Monday night.

Police say the victim was followed from the Tesco Metro store in Wellingborough Road before being grabbed in Artizan Road.

But the attacker — described as being white and 6ft 3in tall — ran off after being disturbed by a passing member of the public.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The woman became aware she was being followed after leaving the Tesco Metro in Wellingborough Road between 9pm and 9.20pm on Monday (June 8).

"The man walked past her and turned in to Artizan Road. As the woman also turned in to Artizan Road, she overtook the man, who then grabbed her from behind and put his hand around her throat.

"The woman fell to the ground before a member of the public disturbed the offender, who ran off towards the Artizan Public House."

Police have issued an appeal for information about the attack.

The spokesman added: "The offender is described as white, aged 25, about 6ft 3in and of a slim build. He was wearing a black Nike hooded top with a white tick and red lettering, black skinny jeans and black shoes with white soles.

"If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information which could help our investigations, please call us on 101 using reference number 20000290988."
