Police issued another £10,000 fine for breaching coronavirus regulations after crashing a wedding reception in Northampton on Sunday afternoon.

Weddings and receptions are limited to 15 guests by laws covering restrictions on people mixing during the pandemic.

Two house parties were busted in Northampton late on Saturday night just hours after Police revealed they had issued a £10,000 fine after being called to a similar event in Northampton on December 5.

A 19-year-old was identified as the organiser of a house party which attracted around 60 people in Forfar Street, St James, at around midnight on Saturday.

Half-an-hour later, up to 150 people and a DJ were found at another party in The Briars, Briar Hill following calls from the public.

Two 20-year-old men — the party organiser and the DJ — were both issued with £10,000 penalties for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

Northamptonshire is currently in Tier Two under the Government's Covid Winter Plan which bans anyone from different households mixing indoors.

Supt Natalee Wignall said: “This sends out a very strong message to anyone thinking of holding such events. We responded quickly to complaints made to us by members of the public and a large number of officers had to be deployed as a result.

"People should be under no illusion that, as we approach the Christmas and New Year period, Northamptonshire Police will deal robustly with breaches such as these.”
