Two conmen pretended to be from the water board to trick their way into an elderly woman's home in Corby.

Police are urging people to make sure they and their family don't answer the door if they aren't sure those on the other side are genuine after the incident on Wednesday (August 19).

At about 10am the two men turned up at the 92-year-old woman's home in Ravens Court, off Rockingham Road.

They told her they were from the water board and entered her home as one distracted her while the other searched the house.

Police said nothing appears to have been stolen.

A spokesman for Northants Police said one of the men was white, in his 30s, wearing a white and blue chequered shirt, blue jeans, khaki baseball cap and face mask.

He had ginger eyebrows and spoke with an English accent. The second man was also white, wearing dark clothing.

The spokesman added: “Never feel obliged to let anyone into your home.

"A genuine caller will be more than happy to come back at another time when a relative can be present at the property.

“Most importantly, if you’re not sure, don’t open the door."
