A man in 20s was left needing surgery to repair serious facial injuries after a late night assault in Northampton.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was near the Squirrels Inn in Duston between 11pm on Saturday August 8 and 1am on Sunday August 9 to come forward — particularly a man who dialled 999 to call an ambulance.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Our officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident and in particular, the male who called the ambulance service on behalf of the man but did not provide his details.

"Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call 101 using reference number 20000409595. Alternatively, if you wish to stay anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
