Thieves stole money from 76-year-old man after distraction burglary in Northampton

Distraction burglars barged past an elderly man, searched his Northampton flat and stole money, police have said.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the incident happened on Tuesday, December 13 at 5.30pm at his home in Kingsland Gardens in the St David’s area of Kingsthorpe.

“The 76-year-old was returning home and was almost at his front door when three men approached him. One of them said he needed to check his water supply,” the spokesman said.

The victim opened his door and the three offenders pushed past him and searched his flat. They stole a quantity of money and left.

“All three offenders were white. One was about 40, 5ft 7in and was clean shaven with a stocky build. He wore a blue, bomber-style jacket and a blue baseball cap. He spoke with an Irish accent.

“The other two offenders were in their 20s and wore face coverings,” he added.
