Thieves have stolen tonnes of lead from the roof of a 13th century church in a village near Northampton.
In the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, between nine and 12 tonnes of lead was stolen from the roof of St Mary’s Church in Great Brington, which is grade-one listed building.
It is believed the thieves broke through a gate then drove a vehicle into the churchyard, knocking over a gravestone on the way.
They then stripped more than 3,000-sq-ft of lead from the church roof before driving off.
Officers investigating the theft have asked anyone who was in the area at the time or who knows anything about the theft to contact them on 101.
Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
