Thieves steal £35,000-worth of gin from HGV parked overnight in Northampton

1,729 bottles costing £20 each pinched during Round Spinney break-in

Thieves stole £35,000-worth of gin after breaking into an HGV trailer parked overnight in Northampton.

Detectives revealed the trailer was parked in Round Spinney Industrial Estate when thieves forced their way in and took more than 1,700 bottles.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The white HGV trailer was parked in Stone Circle Road when 1,729 bottles of District Rhubarb and Pink Gin, which retails at more than £20 a bottle, were stolen between 6.15pm on Monday, June 8, and 6.30am on Tuesday, June 9.

"Our officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area between these times, or who may have been offered the alcohol for sale in unusual circumstances.

"Anyone with information please call us on 101 using reference number 20000291366 — or, alternatively, call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
