Ten roads in Northamptonshire where you are most likely to get caught speeding

A43 tops the list with nearly 600 tickets in September — including one clocking 122mph

More than 7,500 drivers were snapped going too fast for the law in Northamptonshire during September — and here's where most of them fell foul of the speed cameras.

Major routes along the A45, A43, A5 and A6 trunk roads featured well up the list — but so too did 30mph zones in Bants Lane in Northampton and the B526 Newport Pagnell Road heading into and out of town.

More than 2,000 tickets went to drivers on the M1 — including one for clocking an eye-watering 137mph between Junction 16 and 17.

PC Dave Lee, of the Northamptonshire Police Safer Roads Team, said: “Reducing the number of people who are killed or seriously injured in Northamptonshire is one of our priorities, and this has not changed.

“Motorists who continue to ignore the rules of the roads are putting their lives and others at risk.

“I have seen first-hand the devastating effect speeding can have not only on those involved in a collision but also family, friends and the wider community, so please stick to the speed limits.”

Speeding is one of the 'fatal four' traffic offences — alongside drink-driving, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone — which contribute to most deaths and serious injuries on the roads.

figures showed 42 people were killed and another 347 seriously injured in Northamptonshire in 2019 — the highest number recorded in eight years.
