Police used a Taser to detain an 'aggressive' man who went on a rampage in Rothwell on Saturday evening (September 19).

Officers were called to Rushton Road at about 8pm when a man was seen attacking two vehicles with a baseball bat.

He then picked up a ‘sold’ sign and smashed it through the front window of a property in the area, before he then damaged a fence.

A police spokesman said: "Police officers were deployed and due to the man being aggressive towards them and to prevent harm to other people, he had to be Tasered."

A 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
