Seven masked men arrested on suspicion of burglary offences in Northampton

A seven-man masked gang have been released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of burglary offences in Northampton.

The men — all aged between 22 and 33 and from London and Essex — were stopped by police after a group wearing balaclavas were seen getting out of two cars near to a shop in Stenson Street in the town in the early hours of Friday morning.

All seven were held on suspicion of going equipped and conspiracy to commit burglary.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "When the officers stopped the men who were travelling in a silver Citroen Picasso and a black Ford Galaxy, they recovered a number of items from the cars including bolt croppers, balaclavas and gloves.

"Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in Stenson Street between 8pm on Thursday, June 4, and 3am on Friday, June 5, who may have caught the incident on CCTV or have dash cam footage of the cars travelling in convoy, in and around the town."
