Rushden shopkeeper assaulted

Police are on the hunt for a man who assaulted a shopkeeper in Rushden.

A man buying alcohol was asked for identification in Jazz Booze 4 Less, High Street South, Rushden. He was unable to produce this and was abusive towards a member of staff who then tried to call the police.

He then took the member of staff’s phone, threw it on the floor, took the alcohol and left the shop. The member of staff followed him outside and the man assaulted him causing injuries requiring medical attention.

The police are now appealing for witnesses following an incident that happened between 4pm and 4.30pm on Saturday June 8.

The offender is described as a white man, aged between 17 and 25 years, between 5ft 6 in and 5ft 9in tall. He had short dark brown hair, was clean shaven and wore a blue T-shirt, dark brown or black jeans and dark coloured trainers.
