Police in Rushden have issued a warning after rogue traders targeted two neighbouring streets yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Two men approached a property in Chestnut Close between 10am and 10.30am, quoting £100 to trim a conifer tree.

But after removing a few small lower branches they declared the rest was too dangerous to remove, and said that they would have to return at a later date and at an additional cost.

They did not remove the branches and left them hanging precariously over the fence.

A police spokesman said: "The males were described as both white, tall and slim.

"One was wearing a red jacket and the other a chequered jacket.

"There is no description of the vehicle they were using but it would have been big enough to hold a full size extendable ladder."

At a similar time a house just around the corner in Oakley Road was also visited by men matching the descriptions from the Chestnut Close incident.

They offered to sell replacement boilers and it's believed the two men were in the area all morning.

The police spokesman added: "We are keen to try and identify the vehicle and the males.

"Please report any incidents to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency or if the rogue traders are currently at your address."
