Robber tries to snatch handbag from woman near Northamptonshire market

A man tried to rob a woman's handbag after initially asking to use her mobile phone in Northamptonshire.

The victim was walking through Emporium Way, heading from the Market Square towards Newland House in Northampton town centre, when she was approached by a man sometime between 12.15pm and 1.15pm on Thursday, January 7.

She told the offender that she did not have a mobile, at which point he grabbed her handbag.

When she refused to let go of the bag, he ran off towards Sheep Street in the direction of the bus station.

The robber did not manage to take anything, but damaged the handbag.

Police have described the offender as white, wearing dark clothing and a hat.
