Two prisoners were found having a pint in a Kettering pub - after escaping from a jail more than 50 miles away.

Officers were called to popular pub The Stitching Pony in Market Street at about 9.40pm on Wednesday night (September 9) after reports the men were inside having a drink.

Two men have since been charged with escaping from lawful custody.

They are 28-year-old Peter Arthur Johnson, of HMP Sudbury, and 31-year-old Vincent Desmond Israel, also of HMP Sudbury.

Both men are formerly from Corby.

Johnson appeared before magistrates in Northampton on Thursday.

Israel was due to appear at the same court on Friday.
