A man and a woman went into Maplin, in St James Mill Road, Northampton between 5.35pm and 5.55pm on Tuesday, February 23, and selected goods to the value of £300.
They handed over £300 in cash and, after the cashier had counted it, they asked for it back to re-count. They then handed the money back to the cashier who put it in the till. Shortly afterwards, the customers changed their minds and asked for a refund.
It was later found that £140 was missing.
The man is described as white, with a tanned complexion, 5ft 9in, slim, and about 30 to 40-years-old. He had thinning black hair and a beard, and was wearing a black leather jacket.
